Founded in February 1984 by local families, Manu O Ke Kai Canoe Club is an established non-profit community athletic organization operating at the mouth of the Anahulu Stream in Haleiwa. The club is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating traditional Hawaiian culture and communal values through the structured discipline of outrigger canoe paddling, ocean safety education, and environmental stewardship. Functioning as a prominent competitive member of Na ʻOhana O Na Hui Waʻa, the organization manages a large seasonal training framework that supports over 200 paddlers, more than half of whom are local youth. In addition to running its own multi-generational club divisions, Manu O Ke Kai directly serves the North Shore and Central Oahu communities by hosting the official junior varsity and varsity paddling rosters for Leilehua, Mililani, and Waialua high schools. ### Program Highlights * **Age Groups:** Offers age-appropriate paddling divisions tailored for youth competitors starting at age 12, alongside extensive adult and master-level racing lines. * **Season & Format:** Operates primarily during the summer regatta season from May through August, featuring structured weekday afternoon or evening training sessions that culminate in weekend Na ʻOhana O Na Hui Waʻa regattas and state championship events. * **Community Layout:** Provides structured leadership pipelines for youth, manages local athletic scholarship opportunities, organizes beach cleanups, and hosts community-centric initiatives such as assembling Kūpuna care packages for Waialua and Wahiawā seniors.
