About
New Hope Canoe Club is an outrigger canoe paddling program and affinity group of New Hope Christian Fellowship-Oahu. Operating from the Sand Island Public Launch Facility in Honolulu, the organization teaches the fundamentals of traditional Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling to participants of various skill levels. The volunteer-led club provides both recreational paddling sessions and competitive summer racing tracks, focusing on stroke mechanics, water safety, canoe etiquette, and team cooperation. The youth division, Na Opio, offers instruction and a summer competitive season for children and teenagers, emphasizing athletic development and community connection on the water. ### Program Highlights * Serves youth paddlers in the Na Opio division from ages 7 to 18, alongside adult divisions. * Located at the Sand Island Public Launch Facility within the Sand Island Recreation Area in Honolulu. * Runs a competitive summer paddling season within the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (OHCRA), with practices beginning annually in March. * Features a recreational paddling track that teaches basic paddling techniques, water safety, and canoe preservation. * Operated entirely by volunteer coaches and staff, with programs open to all community members regardless of church affiliation.
