Founded in 1981 by the late Grandmaster Martin T. Buell, Universal Kempo-Karate Schools Association teaches traditional Chinese Kempo Karate across multiple neighborhood branches on Oahu and the Big Island. The organization focuses on practical, real-world self-defense using a versatile method centered on escape, control, and neutralization tactics. Rather than prioritizing tournament sport competition, the association emphasizes personal wellness, character development, and the cultivation of mind, body, and spirit. Instructors maintain structured, low-pressure training spaces where local youth and families can build core coordination, confidence, and mutual respect while safely progressing through standard rank testing structures. ### Program Highlights * **Age Groups:** Serves youth and adult lines through separate, age-specific instructional blocks designed for all physical abilities. * **Oahu Neighborhood Branches:** Operates structured community divisions in Pearl City (Waiau Elementary), Aliamanu (Ala Puʻumalu Park), Waipahu (Crest View Park), Kaneohe (Kaneohe Community Center), and Ewa Beach (Asing Community Center). * **Neighbor Island Presence:** Maintains active Outer Island branches on the Big Island, including branches in Keaʻau and Waimea.
