About

Founded in 1973, Windward Kai Canoe Club provides outrigger canoe paddling instruction for youth and adults in Kailua. Operating from the canal near Kailua Beach Park, the organization teaches the fundamentals of traditional Hawaiian outrigger racing alongside teamwork, respect, and ocean safety. The coaching staff accepts paddlers of all experience levels, moving beginners through structured novice programs while preparing returning athletes for weekend regattas. The club maintains a steady focus on community and 'ohana, giving local youth a reliable environment to build physical endurance, learn water safety, and participate in a historic cultural sport. ### Program Highlights * Serves keiki (ages 8 and older) and adults across multiple experience-based divisions. * The Hui Wa'a Regatta Season runs from May through August, with structured pre-season training beginning in March. * Practices run two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons), and the club provides practice paddles for new participants.
